An ancestral recipe and an error !
The Manguin distillery had an old recipe for Pastis made with cardamom, coriander, vanilla, cinnamon and thyme. One day, after the elaboration of the skilful mixture, and before bottling the famous Pastis Manguin, a sample was taken from a recycled bottle. This contained a background of Williams pear alcohol, which then inadvertently mixed with the Pastis ! It was during the tasting that this error was detected and what a surprise. ! The combination of the rather spicy Pastis and the sweetness of the pear gave an incredible mixture. Since this error, Pastis Manguin continues to add pear to its unique recipe.
Pastis : the star aperitif of Provence !
This typical Provençal aperitif based on green anise extracts, star anise, liquorice, cardamom, cilantro, vanilla, cinnamon and thyme, remains the favorite drink of all those who live or come to Provence. The Pastis Manguin offers a joyful and refreshing side due to its opaque color.
How to properly serve a Pastis ?
The rules are clear on this and we will be uncompromising : the ice cubes start at the end ! Why ? Pastis sparkles in contact with the cold. It is therefore necessary in order to put 2cl of Pastis, add to it 5 volumes of water, then 1 or 2 ice cubes. The Pastis then becomes cloudy and takes on a beautiful milky color with a light blue tint..
